A Man spends about one third part of its life sleeping. Approximately. So, it's about 25 years are cleared from our memory and consciousness.
Are there something useful is done by our mind? What experience do we acquire? What knowledge do we get?
Sleep is one of the commonly ignored state of our mind. 25 years of our life we totally forget. Isn't that terrible?
It is supposed that sleep is important for rest. That's true but lazybones require such kind of "rest" not less than sloggers.
You have been working for a whole day, you are tired, you need a rest, you want to sleep. It takes about 8 hours a day to have a good rest for an adult. But newborn infant that lays in a bed needs not less that 20 hours a day to sleep enough. Isn't that strange?
So, the sleep requirement is weakly connected with physical tiredness. It's obviously that aged people need more time for rest, but they sleep not more that 4-5 hours a day.
Not our body needs to sleep, but our mind does. Our brain feels a need for a regular rest during sleep. And that is more important than just feeding. A Man can live without food for a long time. Month for sure. But without sleeping he would die in several days.
The purpose of this site is to draw attention to sleep and the processes during it. Hence, that will help us to study sleep mechanisms in depth and try to become familiar with them.
